When I set out on my wine journey post-Chicago, and after making my first wine in 2018, I took some time to contemplate with other creatives to acutely distill what is deeply important to me. This is something we came up with: Sediment and devotion: [ in-ten-shuhn ] Colston Biblio experiences are intent on igniting our longing to discover sui generis. Inspired by reverence for the physical world, the critical nature of "story," and the granular aspects of cultural and sensory pursuits.

Over the past five years of exploring winemaking, one thing has continued to make itself clear: Injecting meaning and soul into what I do requires collaboration. Alone, I often feel like I don’t know what I’m doing, but when I see what can be accomplished by curating with like-minded creatives, I’m blown away by the genuine nature of the results. My love for design, art, and music would be nothing without emphasizing the importance of community.

Spot Lite is a glowing example of all of these same values: “to foster a home of collaboration and creativity for the enjoyment of all people.” It’s no coincidence how things came together in such a similar way for me and Roula, owner of Spot Lite and longtime friend for over 20 years. This wine is a result of intentional, thoughtful contributions from her and other bad-ass Detroiters.

I’ll never forget the moment I saw Sheefy’s submission for the label art, it felt iconic. Sheefy is a living legend in Detroit; a muralist, musician, DJ, MC, entrepreneur, educator, and all-around mover & shaker. A month ago when it was time to bottle the rosé, Roula, Jess, and Julian from Spot Lite all flew out to Oregon to be a part of the process. I’m not sure how to fully describe how all of this has impacted me but it’s an exciting wine full of life.

In the past few weeks distributors in select markets have jumped on whatever they can and believe it or not, before officially releasing the wine, it’s 80% gone! Whatever is left is for y’all to grab from my online store so act fast and grab enough for the summer.

The wine also lands at Spot Lite next month for their 2-year anniversary weekend May 12-14th. Come celebrate with us, I’ll be around that weekend as well as behind the bar Memorial Day weekend for Movement!
